Because James W.B is in town we put together an impromptu get-together today with David Collins, Jim Howell, James and I.

After a nice lunch we stopped at my place to check out some guitars and then spent the rest of the afternoon at David's shop.  David, as always, was extremely generous with us and showed us how he levels and dresses frets and shapes a nut.  Jim, James and I just really ate this all up and on the ride back we all agreed that this has been about the most informative afternoon that we have ever spent.

Many thanks to David for his generosity and willingness to share openly with us!!!!

Here are some pics from my place.

Man, I just got to get out to the Heshtone shop some day. Looks like a great place to hang out!

It was a good time, and long overdue that I finally got a chance to play some
of your guitars.

We'll definitely have to start making this a more often occasion. Maybe at
least a monthly meeting for lunch would be good.

Dern! I missed out again. And all I was doing was hanging metal ceiling liner in my paint booth!

David absolutely that would be great.  It also would be great to schedule a get-together well in advance so everyone who can get here could attend too.

Mitch buddy you are very welcome so let me know when you are going to be in Michigan and we will make it happen.

Sorry Joe this one got thrown together in only a few days so we didn't have any time to get the word out.  You should come visit us the next time JJ heads this way.  Also I think that the 3 of us may be having Chinese food in several weeks......

Man Billy my friend that one is pretty scary.......  No shoes at Flushtone Global Headquarters because of the white carpet and sloppy winter weather here.

Arnt my friend sorry about not identifying everyone:  They are left to right - David Collins, Jim Howell, and James W.B., Sony the wonder dog is in the middle.

Sorry I missed that one, too. I've been thinking more and more about making a trip back to A2 sometime in the not-too-distant future. You may recall my mentioning that I lived there from '81-'96. It's been several years now since I've been back. I'll be in touch with you guys when I'm making plans to visit.

Hey guys--

Cable is back and now so is the internet!  Yesterday was a really good time.  David and James are pretty good pickers and it was very interesting to hear two of Hesh's L-00's side by side.  Even my tired old ears could hear a real difference with BRW/Adi combination.  That is one sweet guitar -- one that has me looking askance at Ills Fargo trucks.

Thanks to Hesh for inviting us over.

I also want to thank David for taking time out of his day for not only a tour of his shop, but for the wealth of information he imparted to us regarding his new fret polishing system.

It was a great day!  It is really nice to meet the folks behind the postings and it confirms to me the great bunch of people who hang out on the OLF.

We do ned to do this more often.

I was born & raised in Michigan. I still get up there every year for Wheatland. Seems to be a lot of luthiers up there. Down here in Louisiana I only know of one builder, and he does all electrics.

I'm glad I live in North Carolina, but it sure looks like it would have been fun to be with you guys.  Heck, with all those guitars Hesh has built, you could have had a Guitar Orchestra.

Yeah Waddy I tried playing Smoke on the Water but everyone looked at me like I was nuts so I quit........

David, in addition to being a world class Luthier and repair guy is an excellent player and I could have listened to him all day.

I can see it now.  YOU TUBE INTERNATIONAL - "Guitar Orchestra, Playing Heshtone's, in an Incredible Rendition of Smoke on the Water!"              And the Crowd Roared!

It just scared me, because I usually install a self-destruct mechanism in my guitars to be triggered by Smoke on the Water. I realize we were safe when nothing happened after the first few chords, but by then the moment was gone.

By the way, the bank across the street from where we meet for lunch was robbed about four hours ago. We also missed the murder/stabbing a few days ago a truck stop the next exit west off I-94. We always seem to miss all the big excitement.

Wow, Dave, nice neighborhood.  Oh yeah, Hesh lives there!

I thought Charlotte was working to be the crime capitol of the US!

Sounds like we had a bad day here David.  Overall A2 is one of the safest and coolest cities of this size in the country.

Birth place of the Peace Corp as announced by JFK on the steps of the U of M student union and a place where people like Gerald Ford, Mike Wallace, and many others who made their mark went to school.

Historically our crime rate is one of the lowest in the nation.  This is also the home of the first $5 marijuana "citation" which does not include arrest or a paper record......  Inflation has increased this fine to $25 today and it is very rarely enforced.  A very progressive, Republican county Sherriff in the late 60's saw no value in co-mingling college students with hardened criminals in local jails for smoking a joint.......  The community and parents agreed.  The students partied on.....

Here are some stats to support my claims and BTW we have Iggy Pop at times.... and unfortunately blues legend Shaky Jake just died a few months ago......
